Revit Architecture 2012 Experimentation
The proposal of this design challenge was to create an interior addition to a gallery space intended to showcase kinetic art. Students were given the choice of designing a ceiling, wall or floor component. The main design requirement was to create the entire project digitally using the parametric modeling options in Revit Architecture 2012, entering in formulas connected a basic shape and then overlaying a bit-map that would ignite the formulas and create a unique form.
My inspiration came from Islamic geometric repeating star patterns that can be seen in maqsura and window screens. My installation is a series of 16-sided starts that have a central octagon shape. The stars points raise and lower, which causes the octagon to open and close, according to the formula entered. I chose a bit-map of the galaxy andromeda to drive the formulas. My intent is that the ceiling panel will open and close in correspondence to the motion of the kinetic art below.
